What does technology have to do with being creative? Everything!
I started my working days in radio broadcasting but eventually got into the Information Technology field as it was more stable and better paying, two huge concerns when you start having children! Here are some of the technologies I am fluent in.
- Networking: Microsoft, Novell, IP, routing, firewalls, switches, servers, security, design
- Software: Any office application, any win32 or Mac app (if I don't know it, I will figure it out very quickly), enterprise deployment suites (ZENWorks, Ghost, etc.)
- Hardware: troubleshooting, replacing internal parts (memory, drives, etc.)
- Web: Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla, DotNetNuke, etc.
I hold the following certifications:
- Novell CNE
- GroupWise CNA (enterprise messaging)
- Comptia Linux+
- Comptia IT Project+
- Xiotech SAN (CXE)
Can I manage technology for an organization? Yes, definitely. I can see the big picture and also bring relevance down to the desktop.
Where does creativity work into this? Solving a technical problem is an expression of creativity for me. Many technical issues require a creative solution. Being able to think like this has helped me throughout my IT career.
Do I work on home computers? No. Period.
