Getting Started In VoiceoverI get at least a couple of emails or phone calls each week from folks asking how to get started in the voiceover business. This page lists a number of resources that you may find helpful in your journey.
The Voice Over Guide - An outstanding resource for everything voiceover. From noob to veteran, you should be able to find something here to help you in your endeavors. Bill DeWees' YouTube Channel - Watch ALL of these videos. Now. Then when your studio is up and running and you feel confident going after business, go to his site and buy the "playbook". You'll be glad you did. Sound4VO - Dan Friedman presents the VO business from the perspective of both a talent and an audio engineer. He's an accomplished pro in both areas and has even written a book about it. You should really order his book “Sound Advice: Voiceover From An Audio Engineer’s Perspective” and do what it says. Sweetwater Music - You're going to need to get some gear for your home studio at some point. Paul at x1380 is very knowledgeable about voiceover studio needs and can recommend the right gear for your situation. You will not find better customer service on the planet than the fine folks at Sweetwater. CourVO.biz - Dave Courvoisier is an expert and authority on social media as it relates to VO. Read his blog, subscribe to his daily update, and stay informed. Edge Studio - Without a doubt, Edge Studio is one of the most respected studios among voiceover folks. They are a very busy recording studio, but they also have an entire aspect to their business focused on voiceover talent and helping them train. The resources here are VAST. You should really spend a good amount of time on their site when you are getting started. VERY IMPORTANT: there are plenty of folks that want to "coach" you. Buyer beware. That said, the fine folks at Edge Studio are some of the best coaches out there and are reasonably priced. Heck, they won't even coach you if they don't think you have what it takes to make it in the business. Now that's the kind of honesty I like! I will add more resources as time permits. If you found this helpful, why not tell a friend? :) GBY! |
