As I write this blog post, there is commotion in the studio space. Two of my awesome daughters are busy at work earning extra money by putting together a new desk for me. Not just any desk; this one is made for a studio. I'll post a picture when it's all done.
I picked up some additional equipment to go with the desk this week. Some of it will have an immediate impact, some of it is just nice to have. Of note is the new microphone preamp. Without getting too technical, it is the piece of equipment that powers the microphone. This is the same preamp I have used in almost every radio station I've worked at in recent years. Couple that with the same microphone used at said stations and we've got a winning sound!
Why mention these things? Because I am very thankful to have voiceover work starting to fill my schedule. Whether it's providing voices for a video game or narrating web-based learning modules for a large corporation, I am glad to be busy and have the opportunity to improve the finished product even more with better gear. Maybe I will post an A/B comparison of the mic preamp, but honestly, I think the desk is the biggest improvement. Having the right space to work in is important.
When your workspace is clean, organized, easy to work in, and well equipped, it tends to help foster a fresh, creative, and inspiring work product.
Now I just have to wait for the construction workers to get done! :)
